Social game publisher RockYou has signed a development deal with John Romero‘s new social game studio, Loot Drop. Romero made his first foray into social game design with LOLapps‘s Ravenwood Fair last year. Romero is a games industry veteran who co-founded id Software and designed seminal FPS games Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein 3D. Loot Drop’s co-founders include Sir-Tech Software co-founder Robert Sirotek and longtime partner Tom Hall, who co-founded id Software, Ion Storm, and Monkeystone Games alongside Romero.
RockYou will fund a new social game project from Loot Drop, though no details of the game were announced nor was the amount of funding disclosed. Tom Hall will serve as Studio Head and Game Designer at Loot Drop’s Austin studio. Robert Sirotek will serve as Loot Drop’s CEO. Romero’s Ravenwood Fair has quickly become one of Facebook’s top social games, despite ongoing difficulties between Facebook and publisher LOLapps. This announcement comes only a week after RockYou announced that it had acquired social game developer Playdemic.
