Cash-based alternative payment firm paysafecard has announced 40% growth for 2010, with over 35 million transactions processed. Paysafecard became an official payment method for Facebook Credits and expanded operations to the US, Mexico, and new European territories. Paysafecard also celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Overall, paysafecard reports that 2010 was its most successful year to date, with total headcount increasing to 145 employees. Most paysafecard users spent their prepaid vouchers on online games, virtual goods, and Internet telephony.
“After launching paysafecard in Argentina in 2009, we have now entered North America. The demand for prepaid payment methods is very high in the US and Mexico. The biggest factor in the US is the massive boom of online games whilst the main reasons in Mexico are the low market penetration of credit cards and the increasing use of the Internet – which makes alternative payment methods particularly interesting,” said Michael Mueller, CEO of paysafecard, in a press statement.
