Funtactix has announced its next virtual world project, New Boyz: The WORLD, based on the Warner Music Group hip-hop duo New Boyz. The virtual world, built on Funtactix’s The WORLD engine, will include a music-driven online gaming and digital merchandise platform. Funtactix says that New Boyz: The WORLD will be the first music-based virtual world ever launched. SEE Virtual Worlds has already announced its Planet Michael project, but its launch date is still TBA. New Boyz: The WORLD will be available beginning May 2 through the New Boyz Facebook page.

New Boyz has a fast-growing online fandom, with over 2 million fans on Facebook. Users who enter New Boyz: The WORLD will be able to create personalized avatars that embody the New Boyz style. New Boyz: The WORLD will emphasize sale of digital goods like clothing, accessories, and custom dance animations to help further customize a user’s avatar. Users can also play New Boyz-themed games, participate in exclusive online events, enjoy online virtual concerts, and chat with other fans of the group.

Funtactix plans to build customized virtual worlds for other Warner Music Group artists using The WORLD engine. The experiences will be developed and maintained with ongoing involvement from the original artists. The virtual worlds will be designed to appeal to fans in ways that go beyond an artist’s music, offering virtual dance moves and artist-inspired virtual fashions as part of a browser-based experience featuring high-quality 3D graphics.
