Hi5 Enters comScore Media Matrix Top 10 For Gaming
Gaming-oriented social network hi5 has announced that it is now part of the comScore Media Matrix top 10 online gaming sites. According to comScore’s March 2011 report, Hi5 is the world’s sixth-largest gaming site. This means Hi5 ranks alongside other major online gaming properties like EA Online, WildTangent Media, Nickelodeon Casual Games, and Yahoo! Games. March 2011 marks Hi5′s first month being ranked as an online gaming destination by comScore rather than a social network.
“As the current and long-term growth potential of the social gaming market has posed tremendous opportunities for online communities, we’ve dedicated our resources to transitioning hi5 from a social networking property to a leading social gaming destination,” said Bill Gossman, CEO of hi5, in a press statement. “Today’s announcement is particularly significant for hi5 because the new categorization reflects a culmination of the hard work dedicated by our company and our partners to successfully begin pivoting hi5 into the social games industry.”
ComScore categorizes sites based on what best fits at least two-thirds of the site’s content. In 2010, Hi5 launched over 110 new social games on its platform. Many of these games were ports of games also available on the Facebook platform, such as The Dating Game, Millionaire City, Backyard Monsters, Barn Buddy, Resort World, and Bush Whacker. Hi5 also altered the site’s user experience and content messaging to emphasize Hi5 as a place to play social games.
