Bigpoint’s Battlestar Galactica Picks Up 1M Users
Bigpoint has announced that its freemium browser-based Battlestar Galactica Online MMORPG has acquired over 1 million registered users in its first six weeks of operation, making it the company’s most successful launch since its founding in 2002. The game is based on the Syfy television series produced by Universal Cable Productions and features 3D graphics powered by the Unity Engine. Bigpoint expects the number of players in Battlestar Galactica to increase throughout 2011, as Bigpoint begins promoting the title internationally.
Each of Bigpoint’s games is localized by the company into over 25 different languages and incorporates over 150 different global payment solutions. Bigpoint publishes its games through its own online portal and through over 1000 distribution partners who operate their own portals, acquiring over 250,000 new registered users per day. Battlestar Galactica Online receives ongoing patches and other performance upgrades, delivering additional content and enhanced graphics to players. Battlestar Galactica Online is currently in open beta and was designed by Norwegian studio Artplant.
