Use Facebook Connect To Create OpenSim Grids With Kitely

Now users interested in creating cheap OpenSim grids can do so through a browser plug-in called Kitely that integrates support for Facebook Connect. Right now Kitely supports the Firefox and Chrome browsers. When a user creates an OpenSim grid through Kitely, that user can invite specific friends or friend groups from Facebook. The user enters a name for the world, selects a world type, and then types in an optional description. Upon clicking “Enter World,” the user’s Second Life viewer app of choice launches the newly-created virtual world.

Kitely is currently in beta and supports a virtual currency called the KC. Users begin with 50 KC and must spend 1 KC each per minute for each visitor to their world. Supporting a visitor in a Kitely-created world for an hour would cost $.20 if a user buys KC from Kitely at the maximum discount level. Kitely says this lets users save money by only paying for virtual worlds while they’re in use, through even $.20 per hour will pile up quickly for any virtual world that receives steady traffic.
