Popular online casual games site King.com has launched a Facebook application. King.com’s Facebook app will support 26 skill-based games drawn from the casual site’s catalog of over 200 and integrate a competitive tournament system, leaderboards, achievements, and virtual goods sales. King.com’s Website launched in 2003 and now draws over 27 million monthly active users and localizes its content into 10 different languages. Other casual game portals have already launched similar (and successful) apps on Facebook, most notably MindJolt.
King.com’s Facebook app plans to spotlight a different game every day by offering challenges. Players who complete a game’s daily challenge unlock achievements. Players earn virtual currency as they play games which they can spend on virtual goods rewards. Players who choose to engage in tournaments will be automatically paired with other players of similar skill level. King.com plans to monetize the app by selling a special cash-based virtual currency users can spend on “booster” items that increase chances of winning and provide other unique in-game benefits.
The King.com Facebook app was announced this week but has been live since last month. In that time the game has picked up over 630,000 monthly active users and over 101,000 daily active users according to AppData. King.com plans to operate it alongside its own Website and eventually expand similar apps to mobile handsets and tablet computers. King.com employs over 100 people at its London headquarters and offices in Stockholm, Hamburg, and Los Angeles.
