Rovio has announced via Twitter plans to release its hit mobile game Angry Birds on the Nintendo 3DS. Rovio plans to release all current versions of Angry Birds — the original Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, and Angry Birds Rio — for 3DS as digital downloads through Nintendo’s 3DSWare service. Rovio also stated that it was working on a version of Angry Birds for Wii. Rumors indicate that the 3DS version of the original Angry Birds may launch at the same time Angry Birds Rio hits mobile platforms.
The mobile versions of Angry Birds include a “Mighty Eagle” power-up mode that can be purchased as an in-app transaction. Rovio has not announced whether or not the 3DS (or Wii) version will be able to support that feature of the game. It’s worth noting that the 3DS will have a virtual currency, called Game Coins, that Nintendo plans to let developers incorporate into its games as a way for users to purchase extra features and DLC. Rovio also hasn’t confirmed whether the 3DS version of Angry Birds will support 3D visuals or augmented reality.
