CityVille Is The Biggest Social Game Ever

Over the holiday break Zynga‘s CityVille surpassed former flagship title FarmVille and then went on to swell its numbers to over 84.2 million monthly active users according to AppData, surpassing FarmVille’s peak MAU of 83.8 million to become the biggest social game ever on Facebook. CityVille’s DAU has yet to break either of FarmVille’s records, though, with only 14.8 million players checking in to play CityVille daily. If CityVille’s growth rates remain stable then it could peak at over 125 million MAU, according to Inside Social Games.

CityVille’s growth means that it gained roughly 61.7 million MAU in its first three weeks of operation and then an additional 22.5 million since Christmas Eve. CityVille isn’t the only one of Zynga’s recent releases to grow rapidly, but the growth spurt has held out the longest with it. Zynga’s FrontierVille had similar performance in its first few days, but then its total growth stalled at around 30 million MAU. Zynga declared CityVille its fastest-growing game ever shortly after the game’s launch.
