Virtual world WeeWorld is launching an Android version of its WeeMee Avatar Creator app, previously available only for iPhone. The app will be pre-bundled with the Motorola Citrus handset. The WeeMee Avatar Creator launched in February for iPhone and went on to become the app store’s top avatar-related app. WeeWorld is adding in-app purchases to the app on iPhone and will introduce them to the Android version in upcoming months. The WeeMee Avatar Creator lets users create WeeWorld’s WeeMee avatars on their mobile handsets.
Users can incorporate their WeeMees into their phone’s caller ID, email them, and share them through Facebook and Twitter. Users of the $.99 paid app have already created over 1.5 million mobile WeeMees. The iPhone version’s in-app purchases will be “premium closets,” which give users extra customization options for their WeeMees. WeeWorld is adding a dozen packs to the app for sale initially, with themes like seasonal holidays, accessories, pets, work, and play. WeeWorld plans to launch mobile social games featuring WeeMee avatars next year.
WeeWorld is a teen-oriented virtual world that routinely partners with various charity causes, like the Partnership For a Drug-Free America. The world has always emphasized its sharable WeeMee avatars, including selling exclusive branded virtual goods for them through deals with licensors like Virtual Goods. WeeWorld participates in myYearbook’s Currency Connect program and offers prepaid virtual currency cards at retail through a partnership with GMG Entertainment.
