Stardoll To Promote Xbox 360′s Kinect
Virtual world Stardoll has signed a deal that would promote the new Xbox 360 motion controller Kinect to its users in-world. The promotion will run in Stardoll for the next two months. It begins this week by gifting every Stardoll user with a virtual widescreen TV that constantly broadcasts Kinect video into each user’s personal suite. Stardoll is also introducing a Kinect Club page that will be regularly updated with information about Kinect and three of its games (Kinectimals, Dance Central, and Kinect Sports).
Each Kinect game will have an activity created for it in Stardoll, so users can get a feel for how the games play within the virtual world. For Kinectimals, Stardoll will hold a contest encouraging users to recreate their own version of a “key scene” from the Kinectimals game. The community will vote on its favorite recreations. For Dance Central, users will be asked to host their own in-world Kinect Dance Central parties, take photos, and share the experience through their social networks.
Dance Central Parties will appear in Stardoll Parties. Kinect Sports will host a fashion design contest where Stardoll users are asked to create their own line of virtual sportswear. Each Kinect branded activity is accompanied by free branded virtual gifts, other contests, and video content. Stardoll is a popular teen virtual world supported by a range of prepaid virtual currency cards. Random House has also promoted a new interactive fiction property, Mortal Kiss, through a Stardoll page.
