Location-based service Gowalla has announced a partnership with Walt Disney Parks & Resorts that lets Gowalla users earn exclusive passport stamps for checking in from various attractions at Walt Disney World and Disneyland theme parks. Gowalla will also provide Disney visitors with lists of recent check-ins and activities at each of the parks and custom Disney pages. The partnership adds more than one hundred new stamps to Gowalla, available across various Disney properties. This is the largest number of stamps ever developed for a particular brand.
Gowalla is also offering Trips for visitors to Walt Disney World, special lists of attractions suggested for users of particular ages and interests. “For The Little Ones (Under 44 Inches)” is a track recommended for users with very small children visiting the Magic Kingdom in Florida. “Characters In The World” suggests a list of places and times where users can attend shows featuring costumed characters. There will also be badges and Trips for Disneyland in California, such as “Believe in Holiday Magic” which guides users to Disneyland’s various seasonal events.
Disney plans to publicize the stamps throughout the park and encourage users to use Gowalla in order to gather them. Gowalla says that the Walt Disney World Parks & Resorts deal isn’t just the largest branded deal in Gowalla’s history, but one of the largest in the entire location-based space (including Foursquare’s numerous lucrative brand deals). A very popular pastime among Disney parkgoers is collecting pins that can only be purchased at the parks in limited quantities. Gowalla’s Disney-branded stamps are effectively a virtual extension of that.
