Random House Children’s Books has announce that it will publish Mortal Kiss, the interactive virtual story it created in partnership with virtual world and teen entertainment site Stardoll. Random House says it is creating a physical copy of Mortal Kiss because of the overwhelmingly positive response Stardoll users had to the story. Mortal Kiss pages on Stardoll have received over 13.9 million page views, with the campaign page reaching 3.8 million.

The Mortal Kiss Stardoll fan club has 51,788 members.  The Harry Potter Stardoll fanclub has 33,347 members, for comparison. Each main character in Mortal Kiss has its own Stardoll avatar. The most popular character, Faye, drew over 600,000 views for her avatar. Mortal Kiss is the first interactive story Random House has published on any social networking platform. Mortal Kiss is a paranormal mystery created in collaboration with writers and artists at Random House Children’s Books and programmers at Stardoll.

Mortal Kiss was serialized globally on the Stardoll Website over an eight-week period leading up to Halloween. The physical copy of Mortal Kiss will be published on January 6th by Bantam Books for £6.99 (about $11). Random House has previously done cross-promotions with other virtual worlds to promote new kids books, such as its MinyanLand promotion for Rapacia: The Second Circle of Heck. Random House has also promoted The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel through Gaia Online.
