Ubisoft has chosen PlaySpan to power global microtransactions and virtual goods ecommerce in a selection of its online games, including the recently-announced MMO Might & Magic: Heroes Kingdoms. Ubisoft is the fourth-largest traditional video game publisher. It follows competitors like Electronic Arts in trying to convert its long-running game properties into freemium online games. The deal with PlaySpan includes support for Ultimate Pay, which provides over 85 international payment methods.
In addition to its social game line-up, Ubisoft is moving into social game development with titles like Horse Gaga. It is not known if Ubisoft's social games will support the PlaySpan platform or UltimatePay. PlaySpan is transitioning away from its original role as a virtual goods marketplace to being more of a full service provided, now offering products like its Monetization-as-a-Service (MaaS) platform. Other PlaySpan partners include Nonoba, Sanrio Digital, Changyou, and Platinum Hits.
