Playfish has incorporated Like buttons directly into its Pet Society social game, according to Inside Facebook. This feature went live for Facebook developers last week. Pet Society players can now choose to Like individual in-game virtual goods. This will display the virtual item in a post to their wall feed. An extremely popular virtual good could possibly serve as way to expose the game to new players or entice current players to purchase the item.

Previously, players could only choose to Like individual apps, not in-app content. Pet Society is set up so a user who clicks on to a wall post for a good that has been Liked aren't forced to install the app immediately to see content. Users instead are directed to a special page for that app where they can also choose to Like the good, comment on it, or choose to begin playing (or to install) the game. This feature lets current players show off game items to friends who aren't playing yet.
