Social developer Arkadium and the New York Jets have collaborated to launch the football-themed Ultimate Fan game for Facebook. Ultimate Fan doesn't simulate real-life football games (like EA's NFL Superstars), instead simulating the activities associated with being a die-hard football fan. Ultimate Fan players can buy virtual goods for their virtual tailgate parties and compete with Facebook friends to show the most enthusiasm for their favorite team.

"As big brands continue to move onto Facebook, we are thrilled to be working with the New York Jets, one of the most forward-thinking professional sports teams in the world," said Jessica Rovello, President of Arkadium, in a press statement. "Together we have created what we believe will be the perfect social complement to this year’s football season."

The game's concept was "spearheaded" by the New York Jets and then developed in collaboration with Arkadium, a casual game developer that's just no making the transition into social games. Arkadium says Ultimate Fan is the first "revenue-generating" Facebook app to be backed by an NFL team. Ultimate Fan players are encouraged to use the app to cheer on their favorite NFL teams and attempt to predict the outcome of upcoming games.

Arkadium is promoting Ultimate Fan through a combination of online and offline channel promotions. Online marketing will leverage Facebook, email, fan pages, and media buy. Offline marketing will focus on ads in stadiums, radio ads, TV ads, and direct mail. Media marketing plans will vary by team and city.
