Mind Candy's Moshi Monsters virtual world has hit the 20 million users milestone, which means it acquired over 5 million users in the past two months alone. Mind Candy says the world is gaining around 150,000 new users every day, in fact. Moshi Monsters's sticky factor is high, with roughly 6 million of its registered users visiting the virtual world regularly each month.

In light of the property's tremendous popularity with kids, Moshi Monsters is signing a deal with the Penguin Group to produce a series of books based on the monster-themed world. The first book will feature Moshlings, the world's virtual pet equivalents. The book will detail where Moshlings came from, where they live, and what they like to do.

To tie the books in with the virtual world property, the Moshi Monsters books will ship with a virtual item code that allows players to obtain an exclusive "secret" Moshling. The deal calls for the release of two books in 2010 and then an additional five in 2011. Mind Candy intends to issue more Moshi Monsters physical merchandise soon, citing the virtual world's explosive tenfold growth 2009.
