Welcome to the Virtual Goods News Wrap-Up for the week of May 21, 2010. The Wrap-Up is where VGN spotlights stories that we didn't get to cover individually, but still make for interesting reading about the virtual goods industry.
- Foursquare CEO: We're Adding 15,000 Users A Day: Foursquare founder Dennis Crowley claims the mobile social network is now adding 15,000 new users daily. Crowley expects Foursquare to eventually serve 10 million registered users (it currently serves around 1 million).
- GamesCampus Expands To Europe With German Office: GamesCampus is opening an office in Germany so it can prepare to launch localized German versions of its freemium MMOs, complete with German servers.
- Mobile Social Network MocoSpace Launches Android App: MocoSpace, one of the largest mobile social networks at about 11 million registered users, is issuing an Android client app.
- Perfect World Revenues Up 3%: It was a stable Q1 for Perfect World, with total revenues hovering aroud $91.6 million.
- Sony Online Entertainment Introduces $25 Mount: Hot on the heels of World of Warcraft, SOE has released a $25 range of mounts for users to purchase from the Marketplace. The mounts are "heirloom" items that can be used by any character on a given player's account.
- Start Up Launches New Social Network For Children: Togetherville is attempting to launch an age-appropriate social network for users aged 6 through 10, who aren't supposed to register for sites like Facebook (where the minimum user age is 13). Parents create their children's accounts using their own Facebook information.
- Zippo Tries To Cash In On iPhone App: Zippo is attempting to monetize its official "lighter" app further by selling designer "lighter skins" for use in it that users can purchase for $.99 each. While the Zippo app is very popular as brand apps go, it's not clear if it's inspired any real-world sales of Zippo lighters.
