Source: Zynga Makes Over $1M Per Day
The social game developer Zynga is now able to generate over $1 million in revenue per day, according to sources speaking to The Business Insider. Another source states that Zynga's revenue run rate is over $600 million, despite the Q1 slowdown in social game performance. Zynga usually reports that 90% of its revenue comes from direct sales of virtual goods to users. If true, these stats would make Zynga by far the single largest US-based seller of virtual goods.
The news comes as Zynga makes a pair of significant moves. The company today announced the hire of Dani Dudeck as its new General Manager of Corporate Communications, a title that will make her the company's top communications executive. Dudeck is well-known for her previous position as MySpace's Vice President of Global Communications. Dudeck's MySpace resignation is part of an ongoing exodus of executive level talent from the social network, whose user base is in decline.
Dudeck is a particular coup for Zynga and a significant loss for MySpace. She was one of the few remaining executives who had been with the company since its glory days in 2005, first as part of the Edelman PR firm and then later joining the company in 2006. Dudeck's tasks at Zynga will most likely include trying to manage Zynga's developing image problem, as the company has been heavily criticized by the core gaming industry both for engaging unethical behavior and the usually-derivative nature of its products.
Zynga also appears ready to move into the Japanese social gaming market, which is going through a popularity explosion similar to what occurred in the US last year. Zynga is preparing to announce a deal of some kind with Japanese investment firm Softbank, according to numerous sources that spoke to Venture Beat. It is not clear what the deal will entail, but localized releases of Zynga games into the Japanese market seem likely.
