This week sees the release of a new wave of Star Wars-themed avatar items on Xbox Live. The items are being launched to promote the release of this week's new Hoth DLC expansion for the Xbox 360 game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
The array of virtual items includes representations of many iconic Star Wars props and costumes. The new wave of items includes Rebel Alliance fashions, a lightsaber, Imperial military uniforns, toy "Mouse Droid" vehicles, and both male and female versions of the classic Stormtrooper costume. Prices on the new Star Wars items range from 80 to 400 Microsoft Points ($1 to $5).
LucasArts has licensed its properties for use in branded virtual goods on a variety of platforms. BioWare is heavily rumored to be adding microtransactions as a component to its in-development Knights of the Old Republic MMORPG, while last week saw the release of Star Wars and Indiana Jones branded items in PlayStation Home.
