Avatar-movie A company with deep roots in virtual worlds has surfaced among an elite group of third-party creators who are part of the marketing and content cloud developing around the upcoming James Caneron sci-fi feature Avatar (which is itself laden with plot lines drawn from virtual worlds lore). The company, Multiverse, has created two branded game experiences for McDonalds and Coca-Cola using a proprietary technology it calls Remix, a toolset which can takes digital assets created for film and transitions that data into game code. "We take the same assets and let people make video games, virtual worlds or casual games," Corey Bridges, co-founder and executive producer at Multiverse, told tech site Venture Beat. "To create many assets from a single source of code is one of the Holy Grails of digital entertainment technology." It probably doesn't hurt that Avatar director James Cameron sits on the Multiverse board.

According to Venture Beat, Multiverse is still developing a final version of Remix, but when it does, it will distribute it free of charge to developers, generating revenues only when developers themselves monetize their creations. [via Venture Beat]
