Today the ad offer network Offerpal Media announced a new component of its Managed Offer Platform. The new offering, called Offerpal Shopping, allows players to earn virtual currency by making regular purchases from online retailers that participate in the program. The amount of virtual currency earned is a flat percentage of total dollars spent at the participating retailer, with the percentage varying from outlet to outlet. Most outlets reimburse from 5 to 10%, while some outlets offer reimbursements as high as 30%.

The Offerpal Shopping option will appear as a new tab in the Offerpal I-frame that appears in client online games and virtual worlds. Users will be able to browse physical goods offered by participating retailers and make their purchases without leaving the game they're playing. Users will receive their virtual currency reimbursement in 1 to 2 business days, after the purchase has completely processed. The Offerpal Shopping tab will be optional for client games and virtual worlds, who may opt to turn the tab off.

Online retailers participating in Offerpal Shopping at launch include 24 Hour Fitness, Proflowers, Gap, McAfee, Eastern Mountain Sports, CostPlus, Buy.com, Priceline, Snapfish, and Macy's. Virtual currency reimbursement rates at these retailers range from 4% to 18% of total dollars spent. The Offerpal Shopping offering is clearly another effort by Offerpal to try and repair the tarnished reputation it acquired as part of the ScamVille controversy that erupted last month. Yesterday's BillMyParents partnership and the new emphasis on Offerpal Surveys appear to be efforts in the same vein.

This is simply a revshare on commission offered in the form of a “rebate”. Poor Offerpal.
