News Brief: Sweet Seeds For Haiti Raises $700K

Today Zynga CEO Mark Pincus announced that total charity funds raised by the Sweet Seeds for Haiti charity virtual goods campaign in Zynga's FarmVille game have exceeded $700,000. Since it is known that 50% of the proceeds from sales of the Sweet Seeds for Haiti items are donated to charity, that means Zynga has to date generated $1.4 million in revenue through sales of a single virtual good in a single social game. 

As of October 20, the Sweet Seeds for Haiti campaign had raised $487,000 since its launch earlier that month. To reach Pincus's $700,000 total, that means that $213,000 in donations had to have been generated through sales of the charity virtual good since October 20. The Sweet Seeds for Haiti charity virtual item is a seed that allows the user to grow a sweet potato crop that will never wither, unlike other in-game crops.
