Ngmoco's freemium iPhone FPS Eliminate is the #1 Free game on the App Store right now. Perhaps more significant is that it's climbed as high as the #20 spot on the Top Grossing chart despite being available for only two days. Since the game itself is free, all revenue generated by Eliminate is generated by in-app purchases of virtual items made by players.

The primary virtual item players purchase in Eliminate is energy, which is required for a player to gain experience and unlock new items while playing. Users can purchase as few as 20 power cells for $.99 or as many as 1350 for $39.99. It is not necessary for users to purchase energy to progress in the game, since otherwise a player's energy reserves slowly recharge over a four-hour period after being depleted. The game's ranking on the Top Grossing charts simply proves that users are willing to pay in order to avoid a wait.

Right now Eliminate's position on the Top Grossing chart is unstable, as new players (who haven't had the game long enough to begin paying for energy) tend to drag the game down before a little time passes and it surges up again. Most recently as of this writing, the game was spotted at the #52 position on the Top Grossing chart.
