Today the virtual goods marketing platform AdNectar announced that it was expanding service to Twitter and LiveJournal. To bring its branded virtual goods to Twitter, AdNectar is partnering with a service called Fun140. Users will be able to send the virtual items through Twitter's direct message feature, with messages announcing that a gift has been given appearing automatically in the sender's stream. In LiveJournal, users can send gifts that may include embedded media (as seen previously in AdNectar's Capitalism: A Love Story campaign).

Supporting these two platforms now lets AdNectar conduct more in the way of cross-media virtual goods campaigns. In the past AdNectar has focused primarily on the Facebook platform, as it was often the social network advertisers were most interested in. Twitter is turning into an increasingly hot tool for promotion, however, while LiveJournal is a major social hub for fans of female-oriented media sensations like the Twilight novels and films. As social media marketing campaigns grow more demographically targeted, it's more likely that advertisers will want AdNectar spreading their message across multiple platforms.
