Tap Tap Revenge 3 To Feature Avatars, Virtual Goods
Today iPhone developer Tapulous announced that Apple was currently reviewing its latest title, the rhythm game Tap Tap Revenge 3. The $.99 app will monetize through a blend of advertising, sponsorships, affiliate programs, and also direct sale of virtual goods. Users will be able to purchase customized avatars for use in-game in addition to extra songs to play in the game. Pricing for song packs will be $.99 for two songs or $2.99 for six. Revenue for avatars will be split by Tapulous and Apple while revenue from song packs will be split between Tapulous, Apple, and record labels.
Tapulous launched the Tap Tap series of game 15 months ago as an iPhone counterpart to console rhythm games like Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero. Games in the Tap Tap series have been downloaded 15 million times by 11 million unique users. Tapulous CEO Bart Decrem has stated to Silicon Alley Insider that Tap Tap games are played over two million times per day and that his company is already profitable.
Decrem declined to disclose his company's revenue figures but SAI estimates Tapulous can expect to earn $2-3 million this year, with perhaps $1 million alone coming from purchase of Tap Tap Revenge 3. Tapulous's next project appears to be a music game called Riddim Ribbon being developed in conjunction with Black-Eyed Peas front man Will.I.Am. Next year the company hopes to begin publishing games for the Google Android platform, which can also handle in-app transactions.
