Image__-11177-1_0006 Microsoft's Avatar Marketplace, announced earlier this summer at E3 Expo, is going live this fall as part of the next major update to the Xbox 360 Dashboard. The Avatar Marketplace allows Xbox 360 users to earn and purchase virtual goods that let them customize their avatar's appearance. The range of virtual goods Microsoft is rolling out for avatars includes branded apparel, animated items called props, and items only earned by playing specific games called "awardables."

A host of screenshots released by Microsoft reveal some details regarding avatar pricing and how the store will be laid out. It looks like avatar clothing choices are separated by gender and then by a variety of styles that don't necessarily reflect real-world fashion. As seen in the image included with this post, one of the potential items for a female avatar to buy is the "Steampunk Brown Jacket and Bust" for 160 Microsoft Points ($2).
