Whitelabel virtual gift software developer LOLapps has announced plans for aggressive expansion in the future, intending to double the size of its 20-person staff by 2010. The company has also added former Google Product Manager Manu Rekhi to its executive team as Head of Product Strategy and Marketing. LOLapps announces that it is profitable despite the ongoing global economic downturn and claims 50 million unique users per month.

"LOLapps' vision is very much in line with my passion and goals, and I am
excited to be working with a smart and driven team," says Manu Rekhi, head
of product strategy and marketing at LOLapps. "LOLapps is quickly emerging
as a true leader in this space as momentum moves from social networking
sites and platforms to highly engaged applications and I am glad to be on
board to help make that vision a reality."

While LOLapps's meteoric growth is impressive, it shouldn't be surprising. When the company exited stealth mode in April it was already claiming 44 million unique users per month. Earlier talks with CEO Kavin Stewart revealed that LOLapps was profitable from its inception, especially impressive in a space where heavyweight players like Twitter and Facebook frequently fail to even have steady revenue streams.

The addition of Manu Rekhi to the LOLapps team suggests the company has plans for continued growth in its future. While working on orkut for Google, Rekhi was able to grow the service from 500,000 to 100 million registered users, making it the 10th largest Web site in the world. Right now LOLapps is already growing at an impressive rate even by social media standards. What the company plans to do under Rekhi's guidance will definitely be worth keeping an eye on.
