Virtual Greats Brings Jay-Z’s Rocawear To WeeWorld

Last week Virtual Greats announced that it would bring a virtual version of Jay-Z's Rocawear line of clothing to WeeWorld, but other details about the release were sparse. Virtual Greats CEO Dan Jansen has since confirmed to Virtual Goods News that the Rocawear line includes hoodies, hats, shirts, and accessories that will be released at season-appropriate times. Each item will retail for $1 to $4 dollars each. While rapper Jay-Z oversees development of the Rocawear line, he is not an active participant in the Virtual Greats deal.

"Fashion is an area where we’re making a big strategic push, and WeeWorld
made particular sense because much of the activity there is associated with
avatar customization, particularly through fashion," said Jansen. "We’ll soon be
targeting active teen and young adult sites with a focus on fashion, and
reaching into other demographics in this market."

Something interesting about Rocawear and other Virtual Greats lines of licensed merchandise for WeeWorld avatars is that the items become somewhat portable after purchase. While the items cannot appear in other virtual worlds, WeeWorld's WeeMees can be embedded on Facebook, MySpace, AIM, Live Messenger, or user blogs.

"Once embedded, the widget automatically displays the latest styles, moods and expressions of each WeeMee and virally displays any brand the WeeMee has chosen to wear. So if you see Rocawear style on someone’s WeeMee on Facebook, you can simply click to go to visit them on WeeWorld and find out more about Rocawear," said Lauren Bigelow, WeeWorld GM and SVP of Marketing. "WeeWorlders can also add their WeeMee into their email signatures. Just like the widget, it automatically updates, so if your WeeMee is wearing Rocawear you can show that off to anyone you email."
