Today kiosk-based change conversion company CoinStar announced that it would be partnering with several online game operators in order to launch a digital entertainment product suite as part of its 'Pay As You Go' program. The new card will allow users to choose from 15 game-related options, including Facebook and MySpace games, select MMOGs, select virtual worlds, and certain online shopping programs. Among the products is Rixty's teen-oriented online payment service which was announced about two months ago.

CoinStar's broader Pay As You Go program lets users who are feeding change into CoinStar machines turn that cash into payments for wireless service, prepaid long distance calling cards, gift cards, and both reloadable and one-time use Visa and MasterCard branded debit cards. The new digital entertain products essentially let users opt to turn their change into prepaid cards for a participating game or funds for Rixty's payment service. CoinStar intends to launch the program at 500 select Cumberland Farms retail locations this summer. The service seems targeted at young, unbanked users, much like the traditional prepaid card market.

"Coinstar is a leading prepaid provider, and
we are always striving to offer our retail customers the latest and
most market-relevant products available," said Mike Skinner, president
of E-Payment Services and Coin at Coinstar, in the company's press release. "With our digital
entertainment products and services, retailers have the opportunity to
reach the younger demographic that hold the majority buying power in
this high-growth online gaming market."
