Quick Stats: 25k+ Metaplace Worlds, 375k+ SmallWorlds Rooms
It's not user numbers, but it does show some interest in activity: in an article on Web-based worlds that promote user creation, CNet takes a look at both Metaplace and SmallWorlds. In SmallWorlds he notes that there are at least 375,000 user-created rooms, ranging from clubs and schools to hospitals and desert islands. They may not be full of users all the time, but when we spoke to the company earlier this month, Co-Founder Mitch Olson said that 39% of the world's users come back 9 times.
In Metaplace, which allows users to create more complicated worlds from the ground up or pulling from other parts, there are over 25,000 worlds. Of course, as with all user-generated content, not all are quality: "Most of them are empty and most of them are crap," explained Co-Founder Raph Koster. [via CNet]
