7-Eleven issued a statement today on its push into the gaming biz. Along with several in-demand traditional video games, the chain store is boosting its virtual goods business. Currently 7-Eleven carries 20 different prepaid cards in varying denominations and notes that "So popular have these prepaid game cards become that 7-Eleven is placing a major focus on this growing segment of the prepaid business this year next."

Earlier this month 7-Eleven and Nexon announced a partnership to give away codes for virtual goods with Slurpees in a Free-to-Play campaign that also brought a 7-Eleven presence into Nexon's games and virtual worlds.

7-Eleven is also carrying cards, primarily in $10 and $25 denominations, for Habbo, Gaia, Guild Wars, gPotato, Runescape, Aeria, City of Heroes, Exteel, ijji, IMVU, Neopets, Sims2, Sony PlayStation Network, and Microsoft Xbox Live. It sounds like other partnerships may also create virtual 7-Eleven goods for users, giving them Slurpee machines for virtual rooms.

"MMOGs got their start in Asia, but have gained a worldwide audience of millions," said Brian Haynes, 7-Eleven category manager for services. "In November of 2007, 7-Eleven was the first convenience retailer in the U.S. to introduce the Nexon gift card, its first foray into the world of MMOGs."
